The akadama is a clay of volcanic origin collected at a depth of 3 metres from the underground forests Cryptomerie in Japan. It is collected and dried, and then heated to remove organisms and parasites, finally pulverized in a variety of sizes.
Below are its main features: provides the right balance of air, water and nutrients; it contains a huge amount of minerals thanks to its volcanic origin (so that you can adjust it to the best fertilizers in order to provide only the nutrients that you wish to); lets you know when to water, since losing moisture, its color from dark returns with a yellowish-reddish; pH is neutral (pH 6,5-6,9).
These characteristics make it a substrate fantastic for cultivating bonsai is often used as the only component of the loam.
